Art Therapy enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.
Art Therapy is an integrative mental health profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, evidence-based practices, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a therapeutic relationship. Art Therapy honors individuals’ values and supports personal and relational treatment goals. In Art Therapy, individuals can improve cognitive and sensory-motor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce distress, and resolve conflicts.
Art Therapists are master-level clinicians who work with people of all ages across a broad spectrum of practice. Their education and supervised training prepares them for culturally proficient work with diverse populations.
Art Therapists are masters or doctoral level therapists with a master’s degree specifically in Art Therapy. A Registered Art Therapist (ATR) has completed additional supervision and training; a Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) is an ATR who passes a national examination.
